Graduate qualifications - Aviation and Degree programs
PIA’s School of Specialized Technology (Aviation and Technology programs) prepares its graduates for maintenance and electronics positions in industries such as aviation, manufacturing and production, infrastructure and power generation.
Over the years, graduates have proven their versatility by entering into positions as technicians for regional and major airlines, aircraft production and maintenance facilities, amusement parks, automated production facilities, government contractors, petrochemical manufacturing plants, telecommunication systems providers, specialty metal manufacturers, and research and development centers – just to name a few.
Depending on the program of study, PIA trains students in areas including, but not limited to, the following:
- Metallic structures (sheet metal)
- Nonmetallic structures (composite materials)
- Painting and corrosion control
- Turbine and reciprocating engines
- Electricity and electrical troubleshooting
- Amplifiers and power supplies
- Diodes, transistors and semiconductors
- Electronic instruments and controls
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
- Audio & entertainment systems
- Precision measurement
- Navigation and communication systems
- Radar surveillance and weather avoidance systems
- OSHA safety regulations
- Drafting and blueprint reading
Graduates of the Aviation Maintenance programs at PIA’s main campus receive an Associate in Specialized Technology (AST) degree and are qualified to test for the FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification.
Aviation Electronics graduates receive an Associate in Specialized Technology (AST) degree and attain at least elements one and three of the FCC GROL (General Radiotelephone Operator’s License).
Graduates of the Aviation Maintenance program at PIA’s Youngstown branch campus receive a diploma and are qualified to test for the FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification.
Mechanical Systems Technology and Electronic Systems Technology graduates receive an Associate in Specialized Technology (AST) degree.
