Mechanical Systems Technology (MST) Program

Mechanical Systems Technicians work in a variety of different industries that utilize complex systems and components. These versatile maintenance personnel routinely inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment. The MST program at PIA is 18 months in length and leads to an Associate in Specialized Technology degree. Graduates of the MST program are qualified to enter the workforce at entry level with a host of manufacturers, maintenance and repair specialists, and power generation facilities.

PIA's focus on hands-on learning experiences is evident in the school's shops and labs, which include specialized areas for propulsion systems, electronics (basic and advanced), radio communication & navigation, sheet metal, hydraulics, instruments & controls, composites, non-destructive testing, welding, and painting.

The Mechanical Systems Technology degree program is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). Accreditation statement is not applicable to the PIA Jump Start programs.






    PIA took me from my high school days of just "getting by" and passing the time until school was over, to preparing for an industry where school never ends. I recieved my A&P license in 1981, and went to work for Allegheny Commuter in Youngstown, OH, then Parkersburg, WV. Five years later I moved to Minneapolis, MN, to work for Northwest in the wheels and brakes shop. After finding out the real meaning of winter, I returned to the 'Burgh and USAir as it was called. I spent 18 years...
