Dr.  James Mader (30 years) PIA's Director of Education, is celebrating his 30 year anniversary with the school.   Dr. Mader attended PIA as a student, graduating in 1976.  He returned as an instructor in 1980, teaching first quarter English and Physics.  He also taught multiple powerplant courses throughout the years.  He obtained his doctorate in Education from Kennedy Western University in 2000.  Three of his sons are PIA alumni.

 

Tom O'Keefe (25 years) 7thQuarter Airframe instructor  O'Keefe taught the high school introductory program from 2003 to early 2009.  He hopes to stay around PIA for many more years.  O'Keefe is married with two children, and a son, Tom Junior, is a PIA alumni.

 

Creighton Bryan (10 years) A 5th Quarter Airframe instructor, Bryan graduated from PIA in 1991.  Prior to teaching at PIA, Bryan worked in general aviation and with US Airways in Pittsburgh.  He enjoys making model aircraft and gardening.  He lives with his wife, Kim.

 

Bonnie Wissner (5 years) Ms. Wissner is the assistant financial aid officer and Veterans' affairs certifying official.  Bonnie obtained her bachelors degree in business from Strayer, and is currently pursuing her masters in finance.  She spends most of her time doing homework, but likes to spend spare time with her puggle dog, Jackson.

 

Steve Sabold (5 years) PIA's Supervisor of Admissions, graduated from Northwood University in 1999, with a degree in hotel and restaurant management.  Previously, Sabold worked as a general manager with Eat 'n' Park Hospitality.  Sabold moved to Pittsburgh from Harrisburg in 2003, and never misses a Steelers game.  He lives with his wife, Carolyn, and his daughter, Chloe, with whom he hopes to go snow tubing this winter.

Aviation Electronics Field Trip
About PIA
Recently students from PIA's 4, 5 and 6th quarter Aviation Electronics Department went on a field trip to Advanced Acoustic Concepts. Advanced Acoustic Concepts (AAC) provides innovative solutions for sonar detection and classification, torpedo defense, advanced distributed training, learning and knowledge management systems, software engineering and systems integration. AAC is a technical leader in the design and development of software products. These products run in open architecture environments, which employ mainstream, readily available commercial license-free hardware and software. AAC has been selected by the United States Navy as a lead contractor for the Surface Ship Torpedo Defense program.

With extensive experience in both Under Sea Warfare (USW) sensor signal processing and training applications, AAC is able to provide a synergistic approach to producing high fidelity, innovative signal processing and training products for the Navy. Through the installation of common technology across several Navy warfighting platforms, the company has emerged as a leading supplier of Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) automated, real time processing systems and provider of tactical training support to the U.S. Navy. www.aactech.com
