Crown Equipment Corporation visits PIA Youngstown

Interested to learn how students studying aviation get involved in non-aviation fields? PIA Youngstown hosted a visit from Crown Equipment Corporation last week, where Regional Recruiter Matt Jones spoke about employment opportunities available for 3rd and 4th-semester students.  The forklift company designs and manufactures lift truck components like motors, drive units, and electric modules.  Based out of Ohio, the organization has sought out the skills of trained A&P mechanics to support their mission. “The students at PIA are ready and eager to work,” says Jones.  “They leave the school with a wealth of knowledge and are able to enter our service field running! Overall, they are highly skilled and well-rounded.  That’s what we are looking for at Crown.”

This was the company’s first visit to PIA.  Carrie Grimes, Campus Coordinator of PIA Youngstown, explained why the skills of an A&P are sought out by non-aviation-related companies.  “The skills obtained at PIA is what attracts companies like Crown Equipment to our graduates,” says Grimes.  “Crown hires technicians with good mechanical and electrical aptitudes, knowledge of electrical and electronic systems, hydraulics, internal combustion engines, and the ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.”

PIA would like to thank Crown Equipment for taking the time to meet with our students.  We look forward to having you again in the future!
