Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT)

Employment:
Goodyear, Airship Mechanic

Shane Healey grew up working on dirt bikes and ATVs, but when his brother Owen started training at PIA Youngstown, Shane was inspired to follow. Today, both Healey brothers work in aviation maintenance — Owen at private jet charter Wheels Up, and Shane as an Airship Mechanic for Goodyear.

“My duties at Goodyear vary because we need to be multifaceted,” said Healey. “Most days I’m a mechanic performing inspections and repairing the airship when necessary, but other days I’m a ground crewman assisting in the operation for the airship to take off and land.” Healey also frequently travels with the Goodyear road crew, with his longest trip so far lasting three and a half weeks.

Healey is grateful to have earned his job at Goodyear with the help of PIA’s career prep services. “Carrie Grimes in Career Placement helped me through every step of my interview process, from proofreading my emails to even giving up her desk for an hour so I could do an online interview,” said Healey. “I would not have obtained my dream job without her help.”
