Hands-on Training: PIA Enhances Training with New Equipment
Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA) has enhanced its hands-on training environment with the purchase of three SimSpray® virtual reality paint simulators by VRSim, bringing cutting-edge technology directly into the classroom.
SimSpray® is an advanced virtual reality spray painting simulator designed to transform how students learn precision coating skills. By combining immersive VR experiences with real-time performance feedback, the system allows students to practice techniques in a controlled, repeatable environment. This approach supports skill development while reducing material waste and improving overall training efficiency.
The acquisition of this equipment was made possible through grant funding from the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund (GEDTF). PIA extends its sincere thanks to Senator Nick Pisciottano and Representative John Inglis for their support in helping secure these funds and invest in the future of workforce training.
With the addition of the SimSpray® systems, students will gain valuable experience in achieving precise, consistent paint application—skills that translate directly to the aviation industry and support employer expectations for job-ready graduates.
This investment reflects PIA’s continued commitment to providing students with hands-on training with innovative, industry-aligned training tools that prepare them for successful careers in aviation maintenance and beyond.
