PIA Named PNGAS Guard-Friendly School

The Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics was honored as one of only 48 schools to become a Pennsylvania National Guard Associations (PNGAS) Guard-Friendly School.

The PNGAS Guard-Friendly School standards were designed to recognize institutions of higher learning that create a supportive learning environment for members of the Pennsylvania National Guard.  The standards measure 10 baseline criteria.  Joseph E. Dagney, Chairman of the PNGAS Education Action Council, stated “More than ever, the past year has demonstrated Guard members have unique responsibilities, and this creates different challenges for them when pursuing a degree.  These schools have made a deliberate effort to be flexible, accommodating, and supportive of Guard members, and it’s very appreciated.”

The Pennsylvania National Guard serves the community, commonwealth, and the country through two divisions: the PA Air National Guard (PAANG), and the PA Army National Guard (PAARNG).

“PIA is grateful to be recognized as a PNGAS Guard–Friendly School,” says PIA President and CEO Suzanne Markle. “The men and women of the Pennsylvania National Guard invest so much of their time and effort in supporting and protecting the people of Pennsylvania. We are proud to offer PA National Guard members, veterans, and their families a path to a rewarding career through a flexible learning schedule that honors their prior learning achievements and enables active Guard members to continue serving the Commonwealth during their PIA training.”

Jonathan Vukmanic, Director of Financial Aid & Student Services, and his team work directly with reserve members as they go through their education.  “We work directly with students who are enlisted with the National Guard to ensure they have the resources they need as they pursue an education at PIA,” says Vukmanic.  “It is great to know our efforts regarding making these students feel supported throughout their time here are being recognized.”

PIA is honored by this distinction and is proud to serve military students in all capacities as they explore their educational opportunities.
